Lixouri is a town in Kefalonia, the second largest after the capital of Argostoli. Just a 30 minutes drive away - or a 30 minutes ferry boat ride - and you arrive at its picturesque harbor, where you can already see its famous “Plateia”, the traditional town square.
The town has a rich cultural history, as it has been the centre of great cultural events throughout the island’s history and also the birthplace of major artists that thrived in music and literature.
In Lixouri, you can find everything you need for a pleasant vacation time, while you avoid the noise and traffic of the capital. You have options for shopping, meals & drinks and people with great sense of humor and hospitality that will make your experience even better.
Distances to the rest of Kefalonia may be quite long, as the island is the largest of the Ionian Sea, but if you plan to explore the west side of it and just make some trips around, staying in Lixouri will give you ease, peace & most of all: the traditional experience of living like a local island inhabitant.

Seaside
The most beautiful part of the town: Its coastline. Keeping its traditional character, along it you will find the spot where fishermen still gather, “ parking” their boats and also sell their fish daily.

Make a walk by the sea to catch the beauty of the place and relax while enjoying the sea aura. The road is wide with a special pavement that allows a great walk by the seaside.
During the summer season, you will see many yachts being hosted in the special marina made for them.
Also, along the coastline, restaurants, cafes and bars are available for more time by the sea.
“Plateia”
The heart of the town. Where people meet and most of the town’s cultural events take place. Called the “Plateia", this is actually the central square that was created during the Venetian era.

In the middle of it, the “Fikos” is a trademark tree with almost a 50 years history. Walk around the place and you will discover many options for a coffee, a meal or a drink, throughout the day and night.
Also visit the traditional pastry shop Mavroeides, since 1918 to taste local sweets.
A few meters away, there is also a pedestrian street, with some shopping stores and bars.
Beaches
A variety of beach landscapes are around Lixouri town. But the top of all is by far “Petani Beach”. Looking a lot like the famous “Myrtos”, this deepwatered pebble beach will amaze you. It is fully organized but its big coast line allows you to find your own spot away from bars. Also a trademark beach is Xi Beach & Mega Lakos, due to their red sand and their length of many kilometers. The beaches Mania, Koutala and Metohi are parts of the same coastline but offer privacy as they are a little more difficult to access and not organized. Atheras port is another option, very picturesque and absolutely pure. Crystal, warm and easy waters make it a favourite option for kids. If you wish to stay near town, visit Lepeda, another small red sand beach, ideal for families. Agia Kiriaki is a most traditional option you may also want to explore. Vouti Beach is in the same area and is a small, true paradise on earth. From the beach of Agia Kiriaki, you can hire a taxi boat to visit Fteri.
